Random Photo: Blackbird / Jetfire

SR-71 Blackbird

Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird #972, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, at Washington Dulles International Airport. October 28, 2007.

I caught part of the second Transformers movie on TV recently. In that movie, this very airplane turns out to be the transformer Jetfire.

In the rear of the picture the space shuttle Enterprise is visible. I visited the Museum during the road trip I’d taken down to Florida to see a space shuttle launch. That road trip turned into quite the aerospace themed vacation.

Random Photo: HDR Cape Breton

Sunset on the Cabot Trail

Sunset on the Cabot Trail, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. August 13, 2010.

I’ve been working on the photo backlog a bit lately and also messing around with things like generating HDR images. This is the first one I did that wasn’t just a test to figure out the plug-ins and settings. I’m not entirely happy with how it turned out, but thinking back it’s probably pretty close to what the scene actually looked like to the naked eye.

This was taken along the Cabot Trail, southwest of Pleasant Bay. I had stopped at one of the many roadside lookouts to find this scene waiting. Needless to say, I was quite pleased to find it.

I Have a Tumblr

I have a tumblr. I’ve been meaning to get an account there for a while, even if only to claim my digital territory, as it were.

Recently I’ve been reminded of Project 365 by a few people I know starting theirs. At the same time the ebb and flow of my motivation to shoot, and post, pictures has hit a high point, so I’m actually going to try and use it.

I know that I lack the motivation to consistently post a daily picture of sufficient quality and interestingness (or sufficiently artriguing, if you will) to keep me happy, and I don’t want it to degenerate into a few nice photos hidden in a sea of mediocrity, so it will not be a Project 365.

What I will try to do is post random photos, at least one a week. I’ll try to make it a photo taken during that week as much as possible, but this won’t always be the case. I’ll also post photos from the back catalog, as it were. If I do really well maybe sometimes there will be a photo every day, just not one taken exclusively for that day.

I’m going to see about integrating it with the site in some way, but for the moment it’s on it’s own. Most of the pictures there will probably already be here, or show up here soon after anyway, but feel free to head over there and take a look. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

New Photos: William Shatner at FanExpo

Photo Gallery

This is not a FanExpo post, at least not in full. There may or may not be one in the future. This is a post to say that I’ve put up some photos of William Shatner’s Q&A from FanExpo 2010. I arrived shortly after he’d started speaking. Ajay Fry and Teddy Wilson from Space were on stage with him, possibly to moderate his talk, but Shatner needs no moderation. He was doing a good job telling stories and taking questions, as Ajay and Teddy just stood there on the stage looking a little silly, and at some point they just slipped out entirely. No pictures to illustrate since I didn’t start shooting until I’d finished the bagel and iced coffee I’d brought with me for breakfast.

Shatner was one of the more dynamic, or at least energetic, speakers of the weekend.

Later, Ajay returned from wherever he had disappeared to, to let Shatner know that his time was just about up.

He joked afterwards, “I don’t really think he was sorry,” or words to that effect. I love the look he gave as he said that:
